Saturday! Denver! SpringGun & Mud Luscious Reading!

I’m flying to Denver this weekend to do a reading with my fellow SpringGun Press author Joe Hall and Mud Luscious Press authors Mathias Svalina, Joanna Ruocco, and Todd Seabrook. I couldn’t be more excited!

Leon Presents a Reading #5
Saturday, May 12 @ 7:00pm
Leon Gallery @ 1112 E. 17th Avenue, Denver, CO

Joe Hall was born in the woods and is devoted to Cheryl. With Chad Hardy he wrote The Container Store Vol. I (SpringGun 2012). Black Ocean Press published his first book of poems, Pigafetta Is My Wife, in 2010. His poems, fiction, book reviews, and essays have appeared in Gulf Coast, Octopus, HTMLGiant, The Colorado Review, and elsewhere.

Mathias Svalina is the author of one book of prose, I Am A Very Productive Entrepreneur (Mud Luscious Press, 2011), & two books of poetry, Destruction Myth (Cleveland State UNiversity Poetry Center, 2009) & The Explosions (Subito, 2012). With Alisa Heinzman & Zachary Schomburg he co-edits Octopus Books.

Joanna Ruocco co-edits Birkensnake, a fiction journal. She is the author of The Mothering Coven (Ellipsis Press), Man’s Companions (Tarpaulin Sky Press), A Compendium of Domestic Incidents (Noemi Press), and Another Governess / The Least Blacksmith: A Diptych (FC2).

William Todd Seabrook hails from Cleveland, Ohio, and received his MFA at the University of Colorado. His fiction has appeared in Tin House, CutBank, Quiddity, 30 Under 30 Anthology (Starcherone Press), and was a finalist for the MAR Sherwood Anderson Fiction Award. His second chapbook is forthcoming from Firewheel Editions in the fall of 2012.

Lily Ladewig is the author of The Silhouettes (SpringGun Press, 2012) and, with Anne Cecelia Holmes, the e-chapbook I Am A Natural Wonder (Blue Hour Press, 2011). Recent poems have been published in Aesthetix, Bone Bouquet, Horse Less Review, Sixth Finch, and Spinning Jenny. She lives in Brooklyn.

In somewhat related news, Mud Luscious founding editor J. A. Tyler recently interviewed me for Monkeybicycle. We talked about dance, narrative arcs, and street fashion.

AWP: Where I’ll Be

In 24 hours I will be in Chicago! I’m ready and rarin’. My dresses and boots are packed and my nails are did. I’m looking forward to buying lots of books, catching up with friends, and drinking bloody marys in hotel bars.

If you’re also going to AWP, you can stop by the SpringGun Press table (J23) to pick up a copy of my book and meet editors extraordinaires Erin Costello and Mark Rockswold. They will also be tweeting from the book fair all week.

Is it Friday yet?

Because on Friday I’m hightailing it out of Brooklyn in a little rental car with a bag of road snacks and a couple of cool kids. We’ll be arriving in Northampton in time for a slice of Mimmo’s before rolling up to WWII Club for a karaoke birthday party.

On Saturday night this is happening at Flying Object in Hadley, MA:

On Sunday I’ll be mixing up some bloody marys and will hopefully learn how to play Mahjong. Later that afternoon other good friends are reading poems at Eastworks in Easthampton, MA, at 5pm.

Get ready.

Anticipating AWP, Part 1

It’s hard to believe that AWP Denver is just around the corner. I’m very excited about seeing old friends and meeting some new ones. The conference, book fair, and off-sight readings often feel overwhelming so I’ve decided to be very zen-like about the whole thing and just go with the flow.

That said, there are some on-sight panels & readings that I’m very excited about:

THURSDAY:

9:00 a.m.-10:15 a.m. R122. The Networked Poetry Classroom. (Chris Hosea, Eric Baus, Dorothea Lasky, Mathias Svalina, Michelle Taransky)

10:30 a.m.-11:45 a.m. R138. Ahsahta Press 35th Anniversary Reading. (Sandra Doller, Brigitte Byrd, Kate Greenstreet, Brenda Iijima, Susan Tichy, Lance Phillips, Rachel Loden)

FRIDAY:

10:30 a.m.-11:45 a.m. F140. National Book Critics Circle: The Practice and Purpose of Poetry Reviewing. (Kevin Prufer, Matthew Zapruder, Craig Morgan Teicher, Nickole Brown, Timothy Donnelly)

Noon.-1:15 p.m. F169. Gurlesque Poetry: A Reading. (Lara Glenum, Cathy Wagner, Dorthea Lasky, Danielle Pafunda, Cathy Park Hong, Elizabeth Treadwell)

SATURDAY:

10:30 a.m.-11:45 a.m. S138. jubilat 10th Anniversary Reading. (Robert Casper, Dara Wier, Lisa Olstein, Jen Bervin, Peter Gizzi, Cathy Park Hong)

3:00 p.m.-4:15 p.m. S198. A Chorus of Hauntings: Giving Breath to Ghosts. (Deborah Poe, Cole Swensen, Jake Adam York, Brandon Shimoda, Selah Saterstrom, Claudia Smith)

Stay tuned for Parts 2 & 3 when I delve into the off-sight readings and discuss what books and broadsides I’m hoping to buy at the fair.
